Pineas Kalambaka is a family-run guest house on the outskirts of Kalambaka, about 1.5 km from the town centre and a short drive from the rock pillars and monasteries of Meteora. Depending on the room, the view takes in the Meteora rocks, Koziakas mountain, the garden or the inner courtyard.
Six room types sleep two to four guests, from a 14 m² Double Room to a 30 m² Quadruple Room. Every room is air-conditioned and simply furnished, opens onto a balcony and has a flat-screen TV, a fridge, an electric kettle and a private bathroom with bath or shower. Three of them face the Meteora rocks.
Days here usually begin with the buffet breakfast in the large dining area and end by the outdoor pool, where the bar serves drinks and cocktails until late in the evening. The 24-hour front desk shares information on the monasteries and the area, Wi-Fi is free throughout, and private parking on site is free as well.
Pineas Kalambaka has six room types, all air-conditioned and all with a balcony, a private bathroom, a flat-screen TV, a fridge and an electric kettle. Furnishings are simple, and every room has heating and soundproofing. The three rooms named “with Meteora View” look out over the rock pillars from their balcony, while the Double Room faces Koziakas mountain.

The outdoor pool is the heart of Pineas Kalambaka: with its sun terrace, it is surrounded by greenery, and the poolside bar serves drinks and cocktails until late in the evening. Mornings start with a continental buffet breakfast in the large dining area.
The front desk is open 24 hours and shares information on the Meteora monasteries and the rest of the area, and luggage storage is available. Wi-Fi is free in all areas, private parking on site is free with no need to reserve, and pets are allowed at no extra charge. For walkers, hiking is among the activities on offer.
Pineas Kalambaka lies on the outskirts of Kalambaka, about 1.5 km from the town centre. The rock pillars of Meteora rise above the town, and the monasteries are a short drive away.
Kalambaka station is about 3 minutes by car or 19 minutes on foot, but since the 2023 storms trains have not been reaching the town while the line is rebuilt. Trains from Athens run to Palaiofarsalos, where a connecting bus continues via Karditsa and Trikala, for about five hours in total; a direct express bus also leaves from Larissis station in Athens, and KTEL coaches link Athens with Trikala, with local buses on to Kalambaka. Check the current situation before you travel. By car, allow 4 to 5 hours from Athens and about 3 from Thessaloniki, whose airports are the main year-round gateways. Parking on site is free.
The six monasteries of Meteora, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988, are the main reason to come. Each closes on a different weekday (the Great Meteoron, for instance, on Tuesdays), and visitors need covered shoulders, skirts below the knee for women and long trousers for men. Go at opening time, or after mid-afternoon when day-trippers leave. In town, the Byzantine Church of the Dormition keeps an early Christian pulpit and frescoes, and the Natural History and Mushroom Museum shows its collection in dioramas. Theopetra Cave, 3 km south of Kalambaka, holds traces of human life going back some 50,000 years, while the stone village of Kastraki, at the foot of the rocks, has trails and tavernas. Late February to early June and late October to mid-December are the most pleasant months; in July and August, walk early and save the rocks for sunset.
